Getting started
What is QUIZ-WORLD?
A free place to practise medical MCQs, turn your own questions into a quiz, and share it. Teachers can also assign quizzes to classes, run live games and read results.
Do I need an account?
No, to practise public quizzes or open a link someone sent you. You need to sign in (with Google) to create quizzes, keep a library, join classes or get notifications.
Student or teacher: which should I pick?
Pick the one that matches how you will use QUIZ-WORLD. You choose once when you join. After that only an administrator can change it.
What do I get on my first day?
Open Library to browse and start quizzes, press + to make your own, and use Profile for your settings. The bottom bar has the main pages.
Creating quizzes
How do I make a quiz?
Press +, paste your questions or upload a Word, Excel or text file, check the name, pick Practice or Exam and press Create quiz. You land on the quiz page with a Share link button.
What is the difference between Practice and Exam?
Practice shows feedback after each answer and allows retries. Exam is timed with one attempt, and results are released by the creator.
Where are the extra settings?
In the one Advanced settings drawer on the create page: timing and scoring, student tools, and security. Everything has a sensible default.
Is my work saved if I close the tab?
Yes. What you type on the create page is kept quietly on your device and comes back when you return.
How many questions can a quiz have?
Up to 150. A longer file is split into several quizzes when you upload a whole folder.
Question format
How should my questions look?
Start each question with Q1., Q2. (or Q:). Give the options A to D, then an Answer: line with the letter. Explanation: is optional. This is the official sample:
Q1. A 45-year-old male presents with crushing chest pain. Most likely diagnosis? A. Pericarditis B. Myocardial infarction C. Aortic dissection D. Pulmonary embolism Answer: B Explanation: ST elevation with crushing pain suggests MI. Q2. Which cranial nerve supplies the muscles of mastication? A. Facial nerve B. Trigeminal nerve C. Vagus nerve D. Hypoglossal nerve Answer: B Explanation: The mandibular division of V supplies the muscles of mastication.
Which variations are accepted?
Q1. Q1) Q: 1. 1) for the question number; A. A) (A) a. for the options; Answer: Ans: Correct: or Answer - B for the answer; Exp: for the explanation. Blank lines between questions are optional, and Word bullets, tabs, curly quotes and Windows or Mac line breaks are handled.
What if one question is wrong?
It is flagged with the reason (for example “Question 7: no correct answer found”) and the other questions still work. Fix it in the text, or create the quiz without it.
Can I upload a file instead of pasting?
Yes: .docx, .xlsx, .csv, .txt or .md. Files are read on your device. Pictures inside a file are not imported. Save old .doc files as .docx first.
Where can I download the template?
At /quiz-world/question-template.txt. It holds the two sample questions above.
Publishing & categories
What do Private, Link-only and Public mean?
Private: only you. Link-only: anyone with the link. Public: listed in the Public Library for everyone.
Can students publish too?
Yes. Any signed-in student or teacher can publish a quiz to the Public Library. The first time, you confirm that you may share it (see the Terms).
What is the subject category?
Every public quiz has one: Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Pathology, Microbiology, Forensic Medicine, Community Medicine, Medicine, Surgery, Gynae & Obs, Paediatrics, ENT, Ophthalmology, Behavioural Sciences or General.
How is the category chosen?
QUIZ-WORLD suggests one from the title, subject, description and question text (the title counts most). You see the suggestion before publishing and can change it. An administrator can recategorise a quiz. No match means General.
What is a creator mark?
An optional credit on your public quiz: your display name and Instagram handle (and optionally YouTube or a website), shown as “Made by @handle”. You choose to show it, and can hide it again. Links must be https and from an allowed site, and open in a new tab.
Who can delete a quiz?
Its creator and administrators. Delete has a 10 second Undo, and you can restore a quiz for 30 days. Results stay.
Collections
What is a collection?
Your own folder of quizzes, for example “Block 3 Revision” or “Prof Prep”. Use Add to collection in a quiz's ⋯ menu.
Can a quiz be in more than one collection?
Yes, in as many as you like. A quiz always has exactly one subject category.
Can I share a collection?
Make it Public and it appears on your profile and in search. People see only the quizzes in it that are public.
What can I add?
Quizzes you created and public quizzes you saved.
Notifications
What notifications are there?
Announcements from the administrator, new public quizzes in subjects you follow (off until you choose subjects), and quizzes assigned to you by a teacher. The bell shows them all, with or without push.
When will you ask to send notifications to my device?
Never on your first page view. A small card appears a couple of minutes after you sign in, or after you finish your first quiz. Only if you press Allow does your browser ask.
What if I say Not now, or block it?
Not now: we ask again after 14 days. If you block it in your browser we never ask again; you can turn it on later in Profile > Notifications.
Will I get flooded?
At most 3 push notifications a day. Announcements from the administrator are not counted.
How do I turn them off?
Profile > Notifications: switch each type off, or turn push off for this device.
